Rick Doss began customizing Harley-Davidsons in 1974.Early applications included sheet metal fabrication and one-off brackets for the individualized customs he created for each customer. Over the next decade, Rick's signature work became "the function fitting the form." His bikes became leaner and cleaner than all the others and soon were totally hand-crafted. Rick Doss became known as "Michaelanglo of Motorcycles" through the numerous motorcycle magazines publishing stories of his custom bikes. Rick's creations have been featured in more than 300 publications world-wide. During the late '70's and all throughout the 80's and 90's, Rick Doss custom Harleys were shown in competitions throughout the world, always placing in the top 5 and in most cases winning "Best in Show " or "Peoples' Choice". IMSA circuit judges awarded him the "Best Engineering" award for his motorcycle entries (competing against autos and hot rods from all over the country ).In 1992,Rick retired from show competition but his customer's bikes are still being shown with similar results. In 1996 Rick was featured Bike builder at the IMFA European Trade Show in Germany .In 1991 partnership was formed between Rick Doss Inc. and Custom Chrome Inc. Rick's state of the art designs and the adaptability of his parts and Custom Chrome's expert manufacturing and vision of the cutting edge market have created the ultimate in parts and accessories. While Rick builds 2 to 3 ground-up customs a year for clients all over the world, CCI customers can add to their own bikes from Rick's line of parts and accessories, thereby creating their own customized Harleys at a fraction of the cost of an original. Currently offered is a Rick Doss Kit Bike package and over 500 parts, many holding US patents. Rick has 30 years in design, fabrication and assembly of Harley-Davidson custom motorcycles. For 25 years he operated a retail parts store along with a service center and fabrication shop. Today Rick continues to build custom bikes, fabrication and manufacture parts for Harleys and perform consulting jobs for others in the motorcycle industry. He has been featured on domestic and international television and publications ,built motorcycles for numerous movies including " The Boyfriend School", Don't Tell Her It's Me","Harley-Davidson and the Marlboro Man" And "Stone Cold") and authors "Tech Tips" in several industry magazines. Rick Doss is 58 years old and lives in Danville, Virginia with his wife of 38 years.
